  6. The files contained in this archive ONLY contain the new SWAG snipets since
  7. the  last release  which will  be  added  to your  existing .SWG  files. NO
  8. changes will be made the your existing snipets.
  9.  
  10. Follow these instructions EXACTLY to update your SWAG packets (.SWG files).
  11.  
  12. 1. Unpack the archive to a temporary directory on your disk. This directory
  13. really should be empty so that you can erase it when you are finished. Once
  14. the snipets  have been added  to your SWAG  files, you will  not need these
  15. files any longer.
  16.  
  17. 2. Copy the new file READER.EXE to your permanent SWAG directory. Overwrite
  18. your  previous copy  of READER.EXE.  You  can  also copy  the new  SWAG.EXE
  19. (add/delete snipets) and the new SWAGV.EXE  (list headers in .SWG files) if
  20. you desire.

  22. 3. From DOS, execute the program  SWAGYYMM.EXE where YY is the current year
  23. and MM  is the current release  month. This program is  safe to execute and
  24. will give you  instructions. It will look at your  disk for the location of
  25. .SWG files. The  files need to be somewhere on  your PATH statement, or you
  26. can set the SWAG environment variable :
  27.  
  28.                         SET SWAG=c:\fullpathname
  29.  
  30. Make sure that  it is correct. If it  CAN NOT find any files  then you will
  31. have to  enter the path you  want. Each of the  SWAG snipets are serialized
  32. so, you do NOT have to worry about running this program multiple times. The
  33. packets will ONLY be updated ONCE.

  35. 4. All  new SWAG snipets  will be  added.  SINCE THERE IS  A COMPLETELY NEW
  36. VERSION  of the  SWAG file  format, the  files may  also be converted. This
  37. might add about 8 minutes to the entire process, but this is necessary, and
  38. will GREATLY improve the overall performance of the SWAG package.

  40. When finished,  you can delete the  files in the temporary  directory. Make
  41. sure  that  you  have  copied  the  new  READER.EXE  to your permanent SWAG
  42. directory first.

  44. 5. Switch to the directory containing READER.EXE and execute it. To see all
  45. of the new packets just added, use  the GREP function (F2) and enter JUST a
  46. BLANK LINE.  The READER know what  the the LAST distribution  date was, and
  47. will find ALL SWAG snipets AFTER that date.

  49. You MUST have  .SWG file listed and be  pointed at one of them  for this to
  50. work. Maneuver around your disk until you have your .SWG files listed. This
  51. will  search ALL  .SWG files  for everything  AFTER this  date. ALL  of the
  52. snipets just  added will be displayed.  See the DOC file  for READER.EXE to
  53. find out about the GREP function in more detail.

  55. 6. Try  out the new SWAG.EXE  and SWAGV.EXE utilities included.  These work
  56. just like  the popular archive programs  that you've been using  for years.
  57. Just type SWAG at the command line, and you'll get the syntax. SWAGV.EXE is
  58. a program that will give you listings  of your .SWG files. It is completely
  59. redirectable from the DOS command line. Try them out.

  61. 7. WARNING !!!!! DO NOT USE THE  SWAGCOMP.EXE program on the new .SWG files
  62. after  conversion. This  program is  NO LONGER  distributed, and  should be
  63. deleted. The new READER.EXE version 3.0 WILL NOT HANDLE files compressed in
  64. the fashion used by previous versions.

  66. 8. If you  have a 2.x version of  SWAG, you'll need to convert  all of your
  67. files using the SWAGCONV.EXE program  included BEFORE adding any new items.
